Margo's Bible Verses, October 11th

On this date, October 11th, Margo was reading in the book of Acts 5:26--42 titled "The Apostles Suffer Persecution" and in Hebrews 9:1--10 titled "The Earthly Tabernacle".

I'll need to lay down the context. The chief priests in Jerusalem had thrown the apostles into jail because the apostles were preaching the gospel and thousands of Jews had come to believe in Jesus as savior and many had been healed of their diseases. An angel had come and released the apostles from prison and the chief priests had them arrested again and brought before the Jewish religious council to stand trial a second time. The Jewish religious leaders again forbade them from preaching but Peter and the other apostles refused saying "We must obey God rather than men." and they went on to preach the gospel to the Jewish religious leaders, some of whom became enraged and wanted to kill the apostles.

However, one of the leaders of the council, whose name was Gamaliel and who was very highly respected, recommended a different approach. He told the story about how other messianic impostors had come and gone.

These are the verses Margo underlined, Gamaliel speaking to the council: "38:Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39: But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God."
